Rag Burlap Garland

Since I fell in love with the rag garland I made last year (and left in storage in another state!) I had, had, had to make another one this year. My initial idea was to have a rustic feel or theme for Christmas this year. But that never works...I always pick a theme and can't stick with it! But I love the garlands and this is the one I made this year.

All it takes is a few strips of fabric (I bought a yard of each and had a little left over), a little bit of patience and some time. A strand of Christmas lights is optional.

Cut the fabric into strips of your desired length. And then tie them onto the strand of lights. You can rotate the fabric or put them into thicker "chunks". Whatever your eye prefers.
Also, I found it easier [less boring] to cut some then tie some, rather than cut loads of fabric then tie. This also gives your fingers a break! :)

I love the burlap! It's my favorite!

  1. I love this idea! When I was in college everyone used to use Christmas lights to decorate their dorm rooms all year. I wish I would have done something like this...it is not too late though!

  5. Totally cute--and the lights add just the right amount of sparkle!

    SOMETHING RED

    Something cherry, something blue,
    Something scarlet just for you;
    Something blazing as the sun,
    Something red when day is done.
